Answer: You are the problem. You believe that no one can do it as well as you and you are right. But also so what!
This is the mirror test. The leader needs to let go of their ego and allow other people to fail publicly. Only public failure combined with the company not failing will rid the owner of this fear. And it may need to happen a few times before the thick-headed owner gets the message.
You have delegated, without the same level of success that would have happened if you did it.
Example: Leader going to dinner with the team riding in the backseat of the car. Advising the driver when to change lanes and when to signal to turn into the parking lot. One of the team told the leader, “shut up micro” (in a frustrated voice – true story)
The leader realized that they were the bottleneck. The team was capable of driving to dinner without their help. (Of course they were, but the leader needed the slap in the face to get the message.)
Stay sharp. Stay honest. Lead like someone who's not afraid of the mirror.
