Leadership Challenge - "HOW DO YOU SPOT WHEN A TEAM MEMBER IS DISENGAGED?"
Answer: They stop asking questions.
They stop volunteering.
They show up, do the minimum, and leave.
They used to care.
Now they don't.
That's disengagement.
The question isn't how do you spot it.
The question is: why did they disengage?
The answer: you.
You stopped challenging them.
Or you ignored them.
Or you took them for granted.
This is your fault.
Question to Consider: When did they stop asking questions?
Why: Disengagement is a symptom. You're the disease.
Here's what happened: they used to be engaged.
They asked questions.
They volunteered for projects.
They stayed late. Then something changed.
Maybe you stopped giving them feedback. Maybe you stopped challenging them.
Maybe you took them for granted.
They felt invisible.
So they checked out.
They're still showing up.
But they're not present.
The cost? You're losing them.
They're updating their resume.
They'll leave soon.
Meanwhile, their disengagement spreads.
Other people notice.
They wonder: if she's checked out, should I be worried?
Morale drops. Productivity suffers.
You'll lose your best people one by one.
All because you didn't notice when they started drifting.
Or you noticed and didn't act.
Either way, you let them go cold.
That's on you.
Action: Talk to them today.
"I noticed you're different.
What's going on?"
Listen. Don't defend.
They'll tell you what changed.
Then fix it.
Give them a new challenge.
Give them feedback.
Make them feel seen.
If you can't re-engage them, let them go gracefully.
Don't let them rot.
That's cruel to them and toxic to the team.
